Semaglutide injection is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is used together with diet and exercise to help control your blood sugar. This medicine is also used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in patients with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart or blood vessel disease. It is also used to lower the risk of worsening of kidney disease, kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease), and death caused by heart or blood vessel disease in patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.
Semaglutide injection is also used together with diet and exercise to help lose weight and keep the weight off in patients with at least one weight-related medical condition. This medicine is also used to treat metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) with moderate to advanced liver scarring (fibrosis), but not with cirrhosis of the liver.
